Dior
Christian Dior opened his couture house at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris in December 1946, backed by the textile industrialist Marcel Boussac, and showed his first collection on February 12, 1947. The cinched waists and full skirts were quickly nicknamed the New Look. Dior died in 1957, and a long line of designers has run the house since. Quiet Menace comes at it mostly through the men's side. Kim Jones took over Dior men's in 2018 and staged his first show that June around a 10 meter version of KAWS's BFF figure made of flowers. In December 2019 he showed Pre-Fall 2020 at the Rubell Museum in Miami with Shawn Stussy as his collaborator, the founder's handwriting running across the clothes. Stone Island worked with the house in 2024, and in 2022 Dior opened a glass concept store in Seongsu-dong, the old shoemaking district of Seoul. Our fragrance guide starts with Eau Sauvage, the 1966 men's scent Edmond Roudnitska built on lemon, bergamot, basil and rosemary. Jonathan Anderson succeeded Jones in April 2025 and that June took on women's and couture as well, putting every line under one designer. His first Dior men's show was on June 27, 2025.
