Travel Guides

Ura-Harajuku is a tangle of narrow streets behind Tokyo's Omotesando, and in the 1990s it held tiny shops such as Nowhere, which Nigo shared with Jun Takahashi of Undercover. Travel Guides are written for trips like that, planned around what a place makes rather than a list of sights. The Savile Row guide explains how bespoke commissions work and how to browse the Mayfair tailoring houses without getting in the way. Kyoto is about craft traditions such as textiles, ceramics and woodwork. Copenhagen and Milan focus on furniture and design, with Milan timed to the Salone del Mobile in April. The Seongsu-dong guide maps a former industrial neighborhood in Seoul now full of independent brands and cafes. New York, Paris, Los Angeles and London's Soho get streetwear and shopping guides that lean on history as much as on addresses. Every guide includes notes on etiquette and getting around. None of them list opening hours or prices, so check those before you go, and leave room in the bag for something you did not plan to buy.
